Performance

Sophie is a professional Double Bassist and Bass Guitarist from Manchester. She specialises in jazz and musical theatre, playing regularly with function band MonoChromatix at high profile events. This includes a vintage car show at Oulton Park and a private function for the Royal Institute of Science hosted by Prof. Brian Cox, as well as weddings, birthday parties and corporate events. She also guests with Jewish Klezmer band, L'Chaim kapelye regularly. Her CV includes over thirty professional musical theatre pit orchestra credits from all over the UK. Sophie also plays with several professional orchestras, including leading her own section for Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra.

Sophie graduated from the University of Manchester in 2014 with a degree in Music, specialising in performance and composition. After this, she went on to study for a Masters in Composition whilst also keeping up an extensive performing and teaching career. Sophie is a confident performer in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, pop, rock, folk, blues, Klezmer and Balkan music. As well as playing from traditionally notated music, Sophie is also experienced at performing from graphic scores, chord charts, TAB or learning by ear. She is also a confident improvisor.

Sophie has had an extensive career performing in pit-bands for musicals and operas all over the UK. She is an excellent sight-reader and is extremely adaptable due to all of her experience. Sophie regularly plays with professional and semi-professional orchestras and ensembles, including lots of experience leading sections. Her performance experience includes symphonic works, concerto accompaniment, choral accompaniment, children's concerts and outreach projects. Sophie is also an experienced session recording musician of many styles, including working with Kaleidoscope Orchestra, MonoChromatix and the Transition Orchestra.
